Buddy Bryan is a 26 year old male from South Florida that lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is a type of Muscular Dystrophy. He has spent 20 years of his life in a facility for people with breathing problems and other medical needs. Growing up in a controlled environment such as this can sometimes be draining on people, and they don't even know it. Although the place he lives in is not super controlled, and he is able to go out when he wants, he chooses to not go out very often because he has lost mostly all of his muscle strength, and he doesn't feel quite right not being able to drive himself around in his wheelchair. Buddy is trying to find a way to educate the community about people with disabilities, and speak about the very small amount of benefits they receive from the government. Many people think that people with disabilities have what they need... but what about the people that don't have a life? The people that spend their life in the hospital unnecessarily? The people that grow up in geriatric nursing homes when they don't have to. These people never had a chance to see what regular life is like. It is true that a lot of people such as Buddy and the people he lives with are forced to grow up in some type of environment other than home. This isn't necessary for everybody, and actually probably is not necessary for about 80% of the disabled community in America. Buddy Bryan has become a very spiritual person over his lifetime. This is how he copes with life from day to day, not making himself depressed about his situation. There are many things that are in his head... dreams, wishes, and desires, just like any other human being. The things he is not able to physically do, he will simply meditate about it and the feelings go away for a while. They never stay gone forever, being as he is always seeing other people doing what he would like to be doing, and he is always hearing stories about people doing what he would like to be doing...
