After receiving his Ph.D. in Decision Theory and Computer Control and Simulation Models in the U.K., Garth Wolfendale moved to Massachusetts in 1972 to lead development of an operating system for Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard (then known as the Mini Computer Capital of the World). Following this he was variously a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National University, Principal Research Scientist at Australia s Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organization (CSIRO), also spanning development work for Fujitsu as part of a joint Japan/Australia venture. He then formed his own Corporation in 1985 developing Artificial Intelligence based decision support systems, winning a good number of Government contracts. In 1990 he also acted as a consultant and contractor for Microsoft in Australia and eventually became full time in 1992. He has been with Microsoft for the last 20 years moving to Microsoft s Redmond campus in 2000. He has combined technical leadership and evangelism of emerging products and technologies whilst providing consulting, training and proofs of concepts to enterprises ranging from medium sized companies to giants such as Boeing. He became a member of the Windows 8 EcoSystem Team which pioneered the development and dissemination of Windows 8 and Metro Style App technical knowledge and skills to Microsoft s consulting community, partners and ISVs. His hobbies are Sailing, Music and two sons who are currently University Students.
