Grade 2–4—Each book leads children through the steps involved in beginning research. Young students would benefit from adult assistance but older children could dive right in. In Put It Together, Throp addresses what information is and mentions plagiarism and online material in an age-appropriate manner. She also addresses language and ways of communication (such as sign language, Braille, and translation). Sort It Out talks about evaluating available information and making the assessment of what is most useful. It also introduces the idea of bibliography in the "Keep a Record" section. What's Next? takes information skills to the real world. Instructions, signs and symbols, rules and laws, and maps and timetables are all discussed. The books have colorful cartoons and full-color photos, and the layout is visually pleasing.
