Judith Stern, MA, is an experienced teacher and educational consultant in private practice in Rockville, Maryland. She lectures nationally to professionals and parents on learning and attention problems, as well as improving children's study and organization skills. She is the co-author of four children's books on LD and AD/HD and The Dyslexia Checklist: A Practical Reference for Parents and Teachers.
Uzi Ben-Ami, PhD, is a psychologist in private practice in Rockville, Maryland. He has worked extensively with children, parents and schools as a certified school psychologist, and child and family therapist. Dr. Ben-Ami has evaluated and treated children with learning disabilities throughout his career.
The first key to success is self-knowledge--especially for children with learning disabilities. In an extremely supportive and practical way, Stern and Ben-Ami explain the many ways that learning disabilities affect children at school, at home, and with friends. Reading this book will help children (and their parents!) feel better about themselves as they learn why some tasks are more difficult for them, and feel even better about themselves when they apply the hundreds of strategies to more successfully master life's challenges. --Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA, author of More Attention, Less Deficit: Success Strategies for Adults with ADHD
The revised edition of Stern and Ben-Ami's book is excellent. It is laid out well with a clear division of subjects, easy-to-read bullet points, and appealing illustrations. A student with a Learning Disability should find it readily accessible as well as relevant and interesting. In addition, adults will benefit from the information, particularly the many suggestions for ways in which they can help their children. The authors also address social issues that are frequently serious concerns of LD children, and offer both comfort and suggestions. Students, families and professionals will all benefit from reading Many Ways to Learn: A Kid's Guide to LD. --Kathleen Dellert Jones, MA, tutor coordinator, master tutor, The Kingsbury Center
Many Ways to Learn: A Kid's Guide to LD is a very helpful book for children with learning disabilities. It maps out a clear way to "climb the mountain" making it a very meaningful book. It is very organized and is an easy read book yet full of vital information. This book will give kids around the nation hope to succeed. -- Gabriel Kohrman, master student
