From Booklist:
In their latest caper in the Field Trip Mysteries series, sixth-grade sleuth James “Gum” Shoo and sidekicks Egg, Cat, and Sam quickly nab the culprit when a precious flute on loan to the local symphony hall is stolen. Though Brezenoff fails to share a crucial clue with readers until the denouement (the disguised bad guy can’t keep track of which foot he is supposed to limp on), his young detectives use observation and deduction to pick out the real thief. Illustrated with full-page color scenes and smaller faux photos, and closing with study questions for readers, this light mystery may stir interest among Encyclopedia Brown fans. Grades 3-5. --John Peters
