About the Author

Following a colourful nursing career Janice decided on early retirement.Leaving her husband and two sons at home in Tarleton a small country village near Preston in the north of England she embarked on the journey of a lifetime, teaching English on the other side of the world in Thailand.Janice had some teaching experience in her nursing career and on a previous homestay trip to Thailand with her husband and her younger son.Following a six week TEFL course in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand a job was offered at an all girls school in Chiang Mai where her year long teaching contract began.Janice always dreaded teaching teenagers and this is just the group that she would be teaching. The first day of teaching on entering the school gates Janice felt like a small child starting school for the first time and nearly walked back out of the gates. Not surprising as the school was so big with over two thousand students attending. This year long adventure turned out to be not just a teaching experience but a great learning curve for Janice. On her return to England in April 2006, armed with a completed diary and memories the epic adventure "Sticky rice for one" began. This is not the end as Janice plans to retire to Thailand with her husband Len in the near future
