Contemporary Holocaust novel. Karl Zeiger is rich and powerful and running for the Senate seat in New York. His whole career is centered around his full blooded American persona. What people don't know about him is that he also spent his youth in a concentration camp in Germany, a fact he has deliberately hidden from everyone in his life and which he has done his best to forget. When he is contacted by a son of Holocaust survivors now working for the Justice Dept. and called upon to be a witness at one of the last, if not the last, war crimes trials, he refuses. But the growing obsession of the investigator to get him to testify as well as his own personal demons lead to a breach in the wall he has created between himself and his past and the memories that come out as well as the secrets revealed threaten to overwhelm his life, family and career.
