Synopsis

Sound and essential, Simple Steps: The Chinese Way to Better Health by Lynn Jaffee is a fully enlightening health text that has the ability to change lives. In layman’s terms, Jaffee presents methods to treat the whole person, mind, body and soul. Written as a primer and an interactive workbook, this text is designed to help readers understand and improve their health using Chinese medicine. In thirteen chapters, the author dissects Eastern ways of dealing with common ailments. With titles such as “Balancing Yin and Yang,” “The Organ Systems” and “Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis,” a well-paced progression evolves that helps the reader understand this dynamic and ancient approach to health and wellbeing. There is a reason Chinese medicine has been around for so long; the modalities observe the whole body and can be very effective avenues of fighting chronic illnesses. As many Westerners have learned, one ailment often leads to another. This is the alternative—and it really is that simple.

From the Back Cover

Acupuncturist and herbalist Lynn Jaffee makes a number of bold moves in Simple Steps: The Chinese Way to Better Health, a learned and savvy treatise on how to tackle Western health issues with Eastern Medicine.

Jaffee does something altogether unique in this book by taking a fascinating "whole body" approach that enables and empowers readers to do exactly the same. All too often we find ourselves at the doctor's office and are offered symptom relief in the form of drugs or surgery without much explanation as to the cause of the problem. Chinese medicine treats the underlying source of your illness, and in doing so treats the symptoms. In thirteen chapters, the author defines Chinese medicine, shares its modalities, and then goes through the entire organ system and the imperative balance of yin and yang.
