In Sentinel Event Behind Bars, a Correctional Officer, prison guard, dies in the medical facility of a maximum security state penitentiary in North Carolina. Doctor Jacob Stein, a physician surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations known as JCAHO, is once again assigned to investigate the incident, a sentinel event, for JCAHO. Jake becomes suspicious that the C.O. was actually murdered, but before he can report his suspicions to the BOP, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he is trapped behind bars, surrounded by high concrete walls, because of a tropical hurricane. Jake and his wife, Rhoda, are taken hostage with a threat to be killed, but before they can be harmed they are rescued at the eleventh hour in an unexpected turn of events.

Jules M. Seletz graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1953 as a second lieutenant, and the Chicago Medical School in 1958 with an MD. Following 5 years of post-graduate training at the Boston City Hospital, he practiced as a General and Peripheral Vascular Surgeon for 35 years. Dr. Seletz enjoyed 41 years in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of full colonel and retiring in 1994. He was a physician surveyor for 7 years for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations JCAHO. JCAHO is the nationally and internationally accepted accrediting body for the Healthcare Industry. Dr. Seletz had several occasions to survey hospitals that have experienced untoward incidents, mishaps, catastrophic outcomes sentinel events. He retired from JCAHO in 2001. Today Dr. Seletz lives in Lincoln, New Hampshire. He and his wife have 7 children and 10 grandchildren. In addition to 7 novels that involve sentinel events, he has also written two historical fiction novels.
