Synopsis

In new children's thriller "John's Magic Rescue",author Charlotte Isler explores the excitement as well as the dangers of the great outdoors. A quick moving and wildly engaging tale for young readers, this wintry adventure shares the everyday dramas of rescue workers and the wonderment of life spent on a river. When good friends John and Jim are drawn to the riverbank while enjoying a snow day to see a Coast Guard cutter break up ice, they have no idea how quickly their luck will change. John's cat, Tiger, has snuck out behind the ten-year-old boys and followed them to the river. When Tiger jumps at his chance to catch a seagull, John jumps after him. Taken by the river's quick current, John and Tiger are unable to make it from their perch atop an ice floe to shore on their own. Hours later, Jim is finally able to alert local authorities at about the same time that the cutter alerts the Coast Guard Command station. Even with a helicopter and rescue workers at hand, John and Tiger will need a miracle to get off the ice and make it to dry land.
