Al M. Rocca is a Faculty Advisor for the CalState Teach program at California State University, Monterey Bay. He is the author of a series of historical fiction books designed for classroom use, including: Pilgrim Courage; Esselen & Spanish Courage; and Explorer Courage.

Review:

The issues that were behind the Boston Tea Party are presented through two 12 year old boys at a very appropriate level of comprehension. Both boys, Peter and Daniel, struggle through the same dilemma faced by the adults of that time: loyalty to the King of England or to the new citizens of the Sons of Patriots. As an adult, reading  this story I couldn't help but say, "Hey, here's Paul Revere or Sam Adams."  A well-written easy to understand version of the Boston Tea Party.

Patriot Courage was a very enjoyable book to read. From the beginning of the book, you are drawn into the story of these two boys, and their life. This book would be great to use in a classroom for group reading and discussion. The vocabulary definitions would be useful also.  Great 4-6th grade material.
