The third part provides materials for a professional development session for this assignment as well as assessment tools and other supplementary materials such as student handouts. Based on the authors' 15 years' experience in teaching guided inquiry, the 20 workshops in the book use a step-by-step, constructivist strategy for teaching a sophisticated humanities project that enables college readiness.

About the Authors

Randell K. Schmidt, MLS, is head librarian at Gill St. Bernard's School in Gladstone, NJ.

Carol Collier Kuhlthau is Distinguished Professor Emerita of Library and Information Science at Rutgers University, USA, where she served as department chair and director of the Library and Information Science Master's Degree Program. Kuhlthau is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking research on the information search process. She has received numerous awards including the American Society of Information Science and Technology (ASIST) Merit Award and the ASIST Research in Information Science Award; the Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Award for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Information Science and Library Education; the American Library Association (ALA) Shera Award for the Outstanding Research; and the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) Distinguished Service Award. Her publications include Seeking Meaning: A Process Approach to Library and Information Services and Guided Inquiry: Learning in the 21st Century.
