Synopsis

We're not always born into our home -- sometimes we have to go out and find it.

Digby has always felt a little different from everyone else. For some reason he's just never felt like he belonged. He longs for a place that felt like home, and one day his yearning sends him on a journey of discovery that takes him to a place where the air is different, and there's a rushing sound quite unlike anything he's ever heard before. At last, he finds a place where ''feeling different'' feels just right.

Since Digby's debut in Germany in 2007, he has charmed thousands. Now he's available in the United States!

Reviews

Now this book has an impressive trim size. At 18 by 7 inches, it’s sure to catch young readers’ attention—that is, if the little red-and-white-striped sheep on the front cover doesn’t catch it first. Like many humans and animals before him, Digby feels different: “He sensed it . . . and it made him feel very alone.” When a red-and-white-striped hot-air balloon floats overhead, Digby follows the familiar-looking object until it goes out of sight. He next spies a similarly striped cola cup and other items, but none can tell him why he feels so lonely. Then an adventure on a cargo train leads to dreams—and the realization—of someplace different. He arrives at a red-and-white-striped lighthouse looking out on a grassy hill filled with sheep; although the other sheep may be plain white, Digby feels as if he’s found home at last. This universal story, originally published in Germany in 2007, is accompanied by charming illustrations in a muted color palette, and it offers up a heartwarming mediation on belonging.
