About the Author:
Gerald R. (Jerry) Ash grew up in Glen Rock, New Jersey. He has degrees in electrical engineering from Rutgers University (B.S.) and Caltech (M.S., Ph.D.). He married Lyn Craigie in 1965; they have three children, Stephen, Debbie, and Katy, and 5 grandchildren. Jerry spent two years in the US Army, serving in Vietnam and Fort Monmouth, NJ. He joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1972, where he supervised a group responsible for designing AT&T's global dynamic network. He wrote two books based on his work: "Traffic Engineering and QoS Optimization of Integrated Voice & Data Networks" and "Dynamic Routing in Telecommunications Networks." After retiring from AT&T in 2007, he and Lyn moved to North Clarendon, Vermont, where favorite pastimes include hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, skiing, snowshoeing, and ham radio (WA2BLK). Kathleen Susan Ash (Katy) Chew grew up in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Katy is the cute little blonde girl in the story who, when she was little, delighted in hearing bedtime stories about "her" adventures with Tortulus T. Turtle. She has degrees in psychology from Lafayette College (B.S.) and George Mason University (M.S.), and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She married Tim Chew in 2003; they have two children, Lea and Jarrod. Katy joined Marriott Corporation in 1998, where she is a systems analyst and designer of Marriott's Information Technology. Katy and Tim reside in historic Manassas, Virginia, where they enjoy gardening, bird watching, exploring Virginia's historical sites, touring Virginia's fine wineries, and caring for their black and white cat named Polecat Chew. Katy enjoys playing the piano and also played the French horn for many years in a concert band.
