Reseña del editor:

THE MIS-EDUCATION OF THE NEGRO by Carter G. Woodson is one of the most important books on education ever written. In his classic tome, Woodson shows the weakness of Euro-centric based curriculums that fail to include African American history and culture. This system mis-educates the African American student, failing to prepare them for success and to give them an adequate sense of who they are within the system that they must live. In THE MIS-EDUCATION OF THE NEGRO, Woodson provides many strong solutions to the problems he identifies. A must-read for educators and students alike.

Author Carter G. Woodson:

  • Founded Black History Week, which later became Black History Month.
  • Shows how a proper education leads to the ability to solve problems and ultimately freedom
  • Provides a totally different perspective on Black thought.
  • Explains why a Eurocentric, white middle-class education doesn’t meet the needs of Black communities
  • Was a stickler for accuracy in Black studies—and one of the first Black Americans to obtain an earned doctorate from Harvard
  • Shared thoughts about Black American politics, religion, and education that remain largely true today.
  • If you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his action. When you determine what a man shall think you do not have to concern yourself about what he will do. If you make a person feel that he/she is inferior, you do not have to compel him/her to accept an inferior status, he/she will seek for it. If you make a person think he/she is a justly outcast, yoiu do not have to order that person to the back door, that person will go without being told, and if there is no back door, the very nature of that person will demand one." Carter G. Woodson
