The most common cancer treatments of Western Medicine are surgery, chemotherapy agents and radiation therapy. All of these conventional treatments can be frightening, painful, debilitating, disfiguring, and possibly minimally effective for pets. But alternatives exist that may enhance a purely medical approach. Cancer and Your Pet shows how dietary strategies, botanical supplements, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, vitamins and minerals, enzymes and anti-inflammatory agents can be used in pre-treatment, during conventional treatment, and post-treatment and prevention.

The number of human cancer patients and survivors incorporating alternative medicine and complementary medicine into their treatment programs is increasing. What has worked for them can also work for their pets. Here, Marie Cargill offers a comprehensive and user-friendly guide to the latest information on the most widely used alternative and complementary methods of approaching cancer in our pets. It will also serve as a valuable resource for all practitioners realizing the information can be used in meeting the needs of patients better. Anyone hoping to enhance the lives of their suffering pets will find a variety of methods they can use to provide comfort, care, and better health for their furry friends.

Review:

Marie Cargill's new book, Cancer and Your Pet is a gold mine of resources for pet guardians faced with the distressing news that their beloved pet has been diagnosed with cancer. . . . Cargill's talents as an author shine as she effortlessly explains in easy-to-understand detail how nutrition, herbal supplements, homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, vitamins, minerals and enzymes can help patients during pre-treatment, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and post-treatment. . . . Four paws up! Highly recommended even for pet guardians wondering purely about cancer prevention. (Citizen Pet & Equine)

This comprehensive and user-friendly guide brings you the latest information on the most widely used alternative and integrative methods of approaching cancer in out pets. (Cat Fancy)

When the diagnosis is cancer pet owners must take immediate action. I recommend reading Marie's book to gain an overview of many of the holistic approaches available to them, with or without adding a conventional treatment protocol. (Karen Shaw Becker, DVM, Chief Veterinarian)

As an RVT specializing in animal hospice and geriatric care, cancer is a common theme in our families' lives. Immediately after reading the first few chapters I wanted to forward the book to families currently struggling with cancer. Marie Cargill manages to simplify and explain some of the most complex and dynamic realities of cancer in a way that was understandable, making this book an invaluable tool for pet parents facing a cancer diagnosis. Cancer and Your Pet: A Guide to Alternative and Integrated Treatment is a resource for the shelves of every veterinary oncologist and hospice team. (Robyn Kesnow, RVT, founder, Animal RN)

Thousands of pet parents each year face the unpleasant reality of having their beloved pet diagnosed with cancer. Whether for people or pets, standard Western medicine possesses a limited arsenal of weapons for dealing with this fearfull disease. Cargill's book, Cancer and Your Pet, introduces the benefits of alternative cancer therapies based on successful Eastern medical practices, often combining the best of both East and West. Her detailed, easily understood descriptions of how cancers thrive and survive, and how alternative approaches help combat the disease, makes this informative book a must read for pet parents and veterinarians. (David G. Wellock, author of Health and Nutrition for Dogs and Cats)

If you have a companion animal, this book is a must read! It is refreshing to read how complimentary and holistic treatments are necessary for pets with cancer, and to keep pets healthy overall. No longer can society ignore the benefits of other healing modalities. (Allie Phillips, attorney; animal Advocate; Master-Teacher Energy Healer for Animals; author of How Shelter Pets are Brokered for Experimentation: Understanding Pound Seizure and Defending the Defenseless: A Guide to Protecting and Advocating for Pets)
