At the beginning of the twentieth century a lady doctor was often treated with mistrust. When Doctor Katharine Harvey goes to the village of Brackenbeck to take over Doctor Anthony Stafford's practice, she finds that the villagers resent her presence and will not acknowledge her as a fully qualified doctor. Katharine soon learns that the villagers follow the lead of Jim Kendrick, owner of Brackenbeck quarry, and Jim doesn't like women doctors. So with Jim Kendrick lies Katharine's destiny. It is not until a tragedy occurs that Jim and the people of Brackenbeck change their minds about her.

About the Author:
Born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Margaret moved to the coast at the age of seven and so began her love for the sea and the Lincolnshire landscape. Her ambition to be a writer began early and she had her first novel published at the age of twenty-five. This was followed by twenty-nine further titles, many of which are set in the heart of her home country. Most recently, a visit to the wonderful National Tramway Museum in Crich, Derbyshire, inspired The Clippie Girls, and the magnificent Gunby Hall, Lincolnshire, was the inspiration for Fairfield Hall.
