The design of bioreactors entails configuration of a reaction vessel for the carefully controlled operation of microbial reactions, based on the incorporation of the effective microbial metabolic reaction mechanism and kinetic data. The structured use of such data in the computational design of bioreactors, taking into consideration that bioreactors effectively constitute Random Media Problem, however, for bioreactor designs are not sufficiently reflected in published works. This book elicits the Random Media Analysis approach with respect to the computational design of bioreactors. The contents of the book are essentially a rethinking of the design of bioreactors with the object of developing a rational approach to the design of bioreactors. The design approach elicits the incorporating the reaction mechanism and rate equation based on the Biochemistry of microbial metabolic reactions, by adopting chemical and biochemical reactor engineering methods. In particular, a perspective is developed with respect to incorporating into the bioreactor designs, the physics and biophysics fundamentals of the microbial fermentative metabolic reactions. Effectively, mathematical depiction of the reaction mechanism, rate equation, and the physics and biophysics of the reactions are used in eliciting the design approach. This book, however, does not include computational analysis of fermentation batch bioreactors. As technology subject, the contents fall broadly mostly in two disciplines: Chemical Engineering, and especially in Biochemical Engineering, though drawing knowledge from other disciplines such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Magnetic Theory; from which the underlying knowledge is integrated.
