The destruction of the Mexican Capitola at the Palace of Nancy (now called the "Rispin Mansion") and the removal and repositioning of the Magnolia Rose hotel into five separate mansions in Santa Cruz has created a series of haunting.

The first author has an M.A. in International Relations from New Mexico State University, and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz.
