ON TAKING MY DAUGHTER TO THE NATIONAL ZOO~We hopped a bus by the National Cathedral.We Sped on the Metro to Woodley Park - Z00.We walked five blocks past many magnolias in bloomto the entrance of the National Z00.~We waited for well over an hour for a friend who did not show.She sat in the letter O of Z00 for a picture I took of her.We smelled the flowers. We watched the crowd go throughthe red brick entrance to the National Z00.~First we saw the Tapirs along the path to the birds.She loved the baby ducklings in the Flamingo compound.We saw a tree covered in carvings of animals and man.We walked all afternoon wherever our feet took us.~Welcome to the National Z00.~I bought her a snow cone, and an ice cream cookie for me.She dropped hers, and cried, and cried.She would not let me buy her another.Instead, she picked out a cherry push up Popsicle.~We walked on brick walk ways and asphalt paths.We saw the elephant crush aluminum soda cans.The baby giraffe caught her eye, at least eleven feet high.Pigmy Hippos. Lions. Tigers. A Cheetah sleeping in the shade.~A red butted baboon mooning us from monkey island.A brown bear batting a large red ball with its paw.A baby orangutan playing hide and seek in a paper bag.The panda sitting and chewing sweet bamboo leaves.~My daughter loved it all, and so did I.To bad it had to end. To bad she had to go back.Tomorrow she has to leave, to go back to Connecticut.I'm so glad she enjoyed the National Z00 with me.

GETTING AROUND IS HALF THE FUN~Crowded streets, one way boulevardswalkways blocked off with plastic yellow tape.Jersy barriers in front of the White House.Buses detoured to another route.~Limos, buses, taxis, touristsall trying to find their way in.Metro Rail passes used, tunstyles spin,around you go day in, day out.~K Street blocked. No exit from Rockledge.Reroute the traffic past the monuments.Tour Buses trying to squeeze throughto the Kennedy Center.~Shear Madness! Laugh out Loud.Getting around is half the fun.In the Heat or cold, any time of yearthe roads constantly under repair.~Drive? It is faster to walk there.A Coffee Shop, a boutique,Georgetown with it's off beat crowd.Cigar Stores, suits and ties, Mohawks.~Green hair, body piercings surround you.New and used books in second floor shops.Galleries with strange looking stuff.All sold on Wisconsin Avenue and M Street.~That way is a one way try driving around.Street Vendors blocking the way.Colorful Tee Shirts, and buttons say it all.Something cheap, or political.~That can't be a real Rolex. It must be fake.Walk back to work from a lunch hour break.Red brick walkways, and glass shop doors.Traffic snarled all day long. Pedestrians.~Crosswalks, stop lights, cars abound.Shear Madness! Laugh out Loud.
