Phyllis Wright Cooper Rayner 1927 - 1997 Born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Phyllis was identified at age five as a voice and piano prodigy and went on to work in professional opera companies and to teach music. At about the same time, she had an 'experience' with God that was an even stronger influence in her life than music. In part because of the example and influence of her parents - Grace Baldwin Owen Cooper and Thomas Wright Cooper - Phyllis lived into her five-year-old introduction to God throughout the rest of her life. She, like her parents, befriended and championed individuals and groups who were on the margins of society, those who were hidden or silenced or traumatized.
