Synopsis

What chance is there really that sent on its way, a book of poems will have a sizable audience? Poets, poets like Rick Hilber, should and do want the quest for such an audience. Their quest is for the book length collection of poems written for the person who will read it in one sitting, or finish it soon thereafter, maybe even because they felt compelled to do so. There is indeed a great prospect of this for you the reader of poetry in this collection. The first audience for a poem or a collection of poems is the poet himself or herself. This is definitely true of this poet who is passionate about making the poetry collection hold together and have a life of its own. “I can not promise you a book you can not put down or feel compelled to finish even; but I can shoot the moon and want that very thing for my poetry.” This collection will not disappoint, and it promises to be a resource for you the reader for its
reflection, meditation, and contemplation of what is required to stay in the moment and to live life deliberately and with appreciation for life itself.

About the Author

Age 66 at time of publication of this book, Rick Hilber can not know if he will have years in which to continue his craft and performance of his poems. Man plans, but plans change, and sometimes time just runs out. What he does know is that since the age of 18, he has found in his poetry meaning and discipline for himself in working the language. At times in making revisions in those same poems, he realizes he has a new grasp of ground covered and an appreciation for how life and art for him are so very intertwined. Personal honesty about his own humanity informs his poems deliberately. He wants to get it, that we are in this life to figure a few things out in order to enrich our lives, and be a blessing to loved ones and then too to the community. "It matters to me that our culture not shy of the labors of love one sees in a sculptor like Karman Rheault (the creator of the sculpture "Soul Mates" depicted in the front cover of this book). Her passion for her art means so very much to me, and I hope you find in my poetry, the same opinion and experience of art."
