Synopsis

Who left the footprints in the wet concrete? Why does the class bully win the election? Who is Ms. Harper's secret admirer? Only one person knows -- Striker Jones, the most original kid detective since Encyclopedia Brown!

Along with his friends Bill, Sheila, and Amy, Striker must use his wits to solve the many intriguing puzzles - and even crimes - that come his way. Unlike most boys, however, he draws upon his knowledge of basic economics to solve each mystery.

"An interesting and well-thought-out twist on the usual kid detective tales."

This funny, classic kids detective novel will teach your children economic concepts like incentives, risk, supply and demand, and trade-offs. But we promise - there's no jargon, only fun!

Named "Recommended Reading" by the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project, the Midwest Book Review calls Striker Jones a "fun and rollicking series" with "effortless teaching of both cooperation values and basic economics."

About the Author

Maggie M. Larche thinks economics is more fun than jumping on a trampoline while eating cotton candy. A native Floridian, she currently lives in Daphne, Alabama, with her husband and kids. Striker Jones was born from her personal fondness for a good mystery. The Striker Jones economics series for kids has been recommended by the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project, and the newest book, Striker Jones and the Midnight Archer, was an award-winning finalist in the USA Best Book Awards, Children's Fiction category.

Review

"Striker Jones: Elementary Economics for Elementary Detectives is a guide to the simple ideas of economics for younger readers with fun problems to work through. It is a thoughtful delve into economics and short fiction, a top pick for younger readers." - Midwest Book Review

"An excellent text for older elementary students beginning to grasp more and more complicated economic concepts. Through its easy flowing narrative with lots of conversational dialogue, children will see that economics affect their daily life far more than they realized!" - Rutgers University Project on Economics and Children

"There is no more important subject for young people to be exposed to right now than elementary economics.  Larche has produced a well written primer that illustrates the economic fundamentals clearly, succinctly and with a cool factor that young readers will love. Think young Sherlock Holmes meets Milton Friedman!" - James Larriviere, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Spring Hill College

"Each chapter in this great book is a mini-mystery involving Striker and his friends. Each mystery ends with a leading question for readers to think about before getting the answer. The solution reinforces the economics concept(s) at work in Striker's solving the case. This is a fun way to learn (or relearn) the basics of economics. It's also an interesting and well-thought-out twist on the usual kid detective tales. Teachers will enjoy illustrating economics concepts by using these stories, and students will enjoy trying to outwit Striker the detective." - SocialStudiesforKids.com

"What a perfect way to teach children. The author does it with expertise and the manner in which she teaches the concept is interactive as well as innovative. Each story ends with a question that will make young readers ponder. The book is a must-have in every school library and I would recommend the parents of school-going kids to have one in their personal collection. Each mystery in the book stands on its own and is not only about the concepts of economics but also about friendship and bonding." - Five Star Readers' Favorite Review
