Synopsis

"Devil Bat Diary" is a novelization loosely based on the famous 1940 film starring Bela Lugosi, only this time it dares to tell the "true" story of what "really" happened to the hapless citizens of Heathville during those terrible nights when Devil Bats rained down from the sky!
Intrepid Johnny Layton teams with his wise-cracking photographic partner "One-Shot" McGuire as the two try to stay out of each others' way as they try to investigate these mysterious murders.
During the course of their investigations they encounter the Idle Rich, a gay sheriff, a sexy French maid, a cranky coroner, and the mysterious Dr. Carruthers, a madman, a genius, a crackpot, who knows?  It's Johnny's job to find out who or what is behind the murderous mystery, and his falling in love with the fragile Mary Heath only complicates matters!
Filled with humor, horror, suspense and with ironic twists at every turn, "Devil Bat Diary" is sure to amaze and entertain you (and don't forget its sensational sequel, "Terror In Tinseltown!").

From the Author

I took several liberties with the film, embellishing the characters to make them more distinctive.  For example, Chief Wilkins is not gay in the film, nor did McGuire and Layton hate each other.

But my main purpose was to write a fun book people will enjoy, as well as paying in my own way a tribute to the great Bela Lugosi, my idol and inspiration.

From the Back Cover

Based on the beloved 1940 film, Devil Bat Diary is the "true" story of what "really" happened to the unhappy citizens of Heathville, Illinois during that terrible summer as recorded in the long-suppressed journals of Chicago City Register's principal newspaper correspondent, "Johnny" Layton.

Did you know that Chief Wilkins was in love with Layton, or that Mary Heath was a superstitious lunatic, or that Layton and his trusted partner "One Shot" McGuire hated each other?

Told in an uncompromisingly frank language about a world filled with chirping Chiropterans, malicious murders, sacred sex and revolting revelations, Devil Bat Diary is guaranteed to amaze and entertain.
