Within these pages are personal stories of World War II veterans, most of which have never been heard before. Long silent on their service, author Jeffrey Meek has gotten them to open up, share their experiences, and in many cases come to terms with what they did and what they saw. With memories long buried for many years, these 75 veterans have finally shared their story so Americans can learn details of the war and keep the memory of their service alive for generations to come. World War II veterans are dying off at an alarming rate and along with them their remembrances of the events in which they participated. This book captures 75 unique veteran experiences that will now be recorded for future historians and researchers.

Mr. Meek is a retired teacher and has researched World War II for 15 years. His research has taken him to Europe where he has toured many battle-related sites. In 1996 his son, Jeffrey Alan Meek, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. This prompted he and wife Jeanne to research their father's service in World War II. This led to him reading books about the war and becoming amazed at what the veterans went through during the war. During his final five years of teaching he put on all-school assemblies that were theme-based. Meek brought in D-Day veterans, Pearl Harbor survivors and more so the students could hear from those who participated in these and other historic events. All this lead to wanting to find a sincere way to say thank you to the veterans for their service. Meek decided to record oral histories with the veterans and give them to the family so they would have a record of their loved ones service. After retiring, Meek moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and, through his wife's participation with the Daughters of the American Revolution-Arkansa Chapter, began doing more World War II oral histories for the Veterans History Project located at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. This led to Meek contacting the local newspaper, the Hot Springs Village Voice, about writing a column about the amazing men. Meek was hired as a columnist and later a staff writer where he continues to write his World War II veteran column, "They Answered The Call". Now having completed over 175 oral histories he has decided to published 75 of the World War II histories in this book. Many of these stories are being told for the first time.
