About the Author
Cheryl is an electrical engineer, serial small business owner, and expert carpenter. She specializes in Victorian restoration through her business Urban Revivals LLC, which focuses on specialty upgrades for homes circa 1880 - 1910. Her workmanship and techniques in ebonizing and gilding have been featured in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Washingtonian magazine, and PaintPro magazine. Her work restoring historic stairways led to the first gates being built in 2003. Those gates in Washington DC were so popular that her next business - Gates2U - was born. Gates2U has shipped thousands of gates to the US and Canada since 2003 in six different styles, including outdoor deck gates, to homeowners and commercial businesses. Her books are targeted to the do-it-yourselfer who is comfortable around tools, and wants to add tasteful ornament to their home. She is also planning on writing another book about her gradual migration from the high-technology defense industry into home improvement, which should give hope to anyone looking to start their "second career"!
