An understanding of grammar must be in place if we are to give our students a chance to become expert writers.  

But have you ever noticed how difficult it is to find a grammar, usage, and mechanics (GU&M) program that seems to have seriously considered both the developmental level of middle school students and the fact that there are other things to teach besides GU&M?  This puzzling situation certainly was a major force behind the creation of Richbaub's Introduction to Middle School Grammar.

Richbaub's, building on the basic grammar taught at the elementary level, completes students' foundation in rudimentary grammar.  The parts of speech are reviewed, sentence parts are learned, problematic topics in mechanics are covered, and then this knowledge is applied toward developing an understanding of proper usage and improved writing style.
