The Rianar are used for inscriptions of a magical nature and also for writing the languages of the Celtic Elves. The phonetic qualities of the set presented here have been adapted to apply to English phonetics as well as Elvish. This makes the Rianar better adapted to writing English than, for example, the Futhark or the Celtic Ogham, which evolved within the phonetics of Norse and Gaelic respectively. Discussion of Elvishlanguages and dialects is beyond the scope of this book. Yet to fully understand the Elvish runes, one must have some sense of Elvish cultures and the pantheon of great spirits with whom they have their spiritual relations and practice. Much of the material presented here is original research derived from folkloric history.
