Jane Bennett Gaddy has captured in her third installment of the Payne family, JOAB, a piece of the history for Faulkner’s “little postage stamp of native soil” with a combination of history and fiction. She places Joab in Oxford, known as Jefferson in the Faulkner novels, at a time when this town was at its lowest. History and fiction sometimes come together and Gaddy has given us something, as Oxonians, to think about in our “little postage stamp of native soil.”
—Jack Lamar Mayfield, Columnist, The Oxford Eagle

Author of House Not Made With Hands, The Mississippi Boys, and Isaac’s House, and co-writer of GIBBO-In My Life, Jane Bennett Gaddy is retired and lives with her husband in Trinity, Florida. She administers a course in American Literature for external studies at Bethany Divinity College and Seminary in Alabama.
Gaddy is a true southerner, a great-great granddaughter of Captain T.G. Clark, 42nd Mississippi Infantry, Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, killed in action at Gettysburg. His sons, Jonathan, Henry, Isaac, Joab and Samuel are stars in The Faithful Sons Trilogy, the Payne men, who properly depict the writer’s forebears.
