Once: Music from the Motion Picture - Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova and The Swell Season Easy Piano Songbook | 13 Film Soundtrack Songs for Piano and Keyboard Including Falling Slowly - Softcover
Synopsis
Once: Music from the Motion Picture is an Easy Piano songbook featuring 13 songs from the acclaimed 2006 Irish musical film, written and performed by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who later recorded together as The Swell Season. Created for pianists who want to bring the film's intimate soundtrack to piano or keyboard, this collection suits fans of the movie, performers exploring contemporary film music, teachers selecting recognizable repertoire, and anyone who wants to revisit the music of Once.
The book contains Easy Piano arrangements, including the Academy Award-winning Falling Slowly alongside music heard throughout the motion picture. It keeps the film's mix of reflective ballads, folk-influenced songwriting, and expressive contemporary melodies together in one collection. Across 13 selections, pianists can move between lyrical pieces and more energetic songs while exploring the phrasing, harmony, and character of the soundtrack.
The value of this collection lies in its connection between memorable songwriting and hands-on music making. Songs by Hansard and Irglova carry much of the emotional identity of the film, giving pianists material for practice, personal interpretation, rehearsal, and informal performance. The soundtrack received a Grammy nomination, while Falling Slowly won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making this songbook meaningful for listeners who discovered the music through the film or its stage adaptation.
