About the Author:

Anneliese Heider Tisdale was born in Munich, Germany, and lived there through World War II. After the war, she worked as an interpreter for the U.S. Military Government. In 1947, she came to the United States as a war bride and became a U.S. citizen on November 20, 1950. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Iowa, she taught foreign languages in public schools in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for almost 30 years. Anneliese and her husband, Jim, live in Cedar Rapids. She is the mother of three and the "bonus" mother of four. She enjoys her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they enjoy her cooking. This memoir is her first book. She is now at work on a second book about her experiences adjusting to her new country.
