About the Author

VIOLET J. WORKING, co-author, B.S. in Education (Art major, English and Psychology minors, 1951); M.S. in Education (Art Supervision major, Painting minor, 1960) at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. She taught and was a studio artist for 39 years, taking additional courses after her Master's degree. Her experience includes teaching elementary, junior high art and English, senior high art, college art, and adult art courses. Many examples of art work are included in this handbook to hopefully inspire creativity with art lesson knowledge in others. She received a Title III grant for an innovative art program which resulted in her art students doing a graphic wall design, murals, copper sculpture, and large circular mosaic wall medallions. She has personally been doing art since age six and is still painting. RUSSELL A. WORKING, co-author, B.S. in Education (Biology and Social Studies, 1951; M.S. and ED.D. in Education, 1954 and 1962 (Guidance, Educational Psychology, and Clinical Psychology) at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Post-Doctoral work at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in School Administration. He was a teacher, School Psychologist, Adjunct Faculty member in several Ohio universities, Director of Research, Planning and Development at the Ohio Department of Education, Executive Director, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent of the Toledo Public Schools, and Superintendent of Clinton, NC Schools. Authoring numerous articles and co-authoring a book on Educational Evaluation Variables, he is also the author of One of Four and A Soldier's Letters. Over the years he has become a strong advocate of Art.
