Bea's life has been a mess ever since she got kicked out of private school and sent to rehab. Now clean, Bea is starting over at Packard High School, in a city shaken from two assaults on young women. The latest victim, Willa Pressman-the one who survived-doesn't remember a thing. But Bea has a disturbing new "skill": she can see-and then draw-images from other people's minds. And when she looks at Willa, Bea is shocked by what she sketches. Bea might be the only one who knows Willa's secrets-and who can take down the killer before he strikes again.

"Fresh, imaginative, and honest... a page-burner that artfully combines suspense and the supernatural." —James Patterson
"Teens who like their mysteries mixed with a touch of the supernatural will gravitate toward this debut." - Suanne B. Roush, Osceola High School, Seminole, FL School Library Journal June 2013
“Olivia Samms’ gripping novel Sketchy is the first in a series about the dynamic and fallible Bea Washington. Bea is smart and refreshing, a rebel doing her best to do well by doing good, or at least doing better than she has in the past. I’m eager to see what happens next in her chaotic life.” – Denver Post
5 out of 5 Stars
Caught between a bad reputation and an ability that could stop the reoccurring assaults on girls in her city, Bea Washington has a decision to make. Just after being released from rehab, Bea gets involved in a rape case that may prove to be more than she can handle. After discovering her ability to “draw” the truth out of people, Bea is determined to help solve the mystery of these cases, even if it means getting herself into more trouble. Will Bea be able to use her talent for good, or will her ability lead her back to where she started?
Incorporating mystery with teenage tendencies, Olivia Samms creates a novel that mixes the typical life of a high schooler with a not-so typical mystery-murder case. Samms successfully transforms Bea’s character from a backward teen to a curious, confident, and persistent high schooler with a knack for solving crimes. Samms’ use of relatable topics throughout her novel allows the reader to take part in the adventure himself. The transformation of the characters in Sketchy along with the descriptive scenarios that surround Bea prove to create a novel that incorporates mystery as well as the typical life of a teenager. - San Francisco/Sacramento Book Review
Raised in southern Michigan, Olivia’s active imagination prompted her to pursue acting and musical theatre, and after receiving her degree from Cornell University, she took on the streets of New York, acting and singing in off, off-off, and off-off-off Broadway shows, regional theaters, sang in Nashville and cried on soap operas. Sketchy is her first novel. She now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
