"A gorgeous opening sentence, offering a profound realism and an inviting first step into the book. Reader can relate to that sense of feeling like an outsider, waiting for someone to beckon them in. Author shows a gorgeous sense of descriptive instinct, painting NYC beautifully and layering it with sensory details, bringing the setting to life. Gorgeously done. Cami's journey of faith evolution is structured well; we see her growth throughout, the marvelous starts and stops of an authentic journey with stops along the way to connect with others, learn from them, and develop the bravery to let them in. Very well done. A beautiful line on page 7 demonstrates the start point: "I can almost imagine myself whole again." Reader can relate, especially if dealing with loss or challenges. Dialogue is handled well, engaging and forwarding the plot, with all characters differentiated. Author smartly veers away from telling, instead *showing* the action as well as inner shifts without needing to be too obvious.Well done. We get a good sense of Cami's inner workings. Author refers to a nice collection of works such as The Giving Tree that the reader can also connect with. Good job giving realism to her literary life. A great question: 'Is it easier to forgive sin or to heal?' Author has created many stop-and-think moments in this story, and as we follow Cami's growth - even through the ugly parts - we can't help but consider our own.
