About the Author:
G. MATTHEW IMMLER is Chief of the Boynton Beach, Florida Police Department. He was appointed to that position in 2005 after serving as the agency's Assistant Chief of Police and Accreditation Manager for six years. Chief Immler began his law enforcement career with the Baltimore Police Department in 1974 as a foot and motor patrol officer in the city's notorious Northwestern District. In 1977 he was assigned to the Tactical Operations Section and was a member of the department's first Quick Response Team. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant and serving as Assistant Director of the Police Academy and as the Administrative Commander in the Northwestern and Northeastern Districts, Chief Immler was the recipient of numerous departmental awards including the Bronze and Silver Stars. During his time at the Baltimore Police Department, Chief Immler completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore, a Master of Liberal Arts Degree at the Johns Hopkins University and attained a Juris Doctorate Degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Retiring from the Baltimore Police Department in 1994, Chief Immler practiced law representing police officers throughout the State of Maryland in disciplinary, criminal and labor related cases. He is an attorney licensed to practice in both Maryland and Florida.
