About the Author

Rhoda Leavitt and Sue Alsup are longtime friends from northeastern New Mexico. The author, Rhoda Leavitt, has a background in elementary education with a degree in teaching and eleven years of classroom experience. She has had numerous poems published by the National Poetry Association and has published a local history book. Sue Alsup, the illustrator, is a well-known watercolorist in the area. She has received many awards for her work and shares her love of art by teaching children's art classes. Our Gypsy Neighbors is based on her actual experiences as a child living in Michigan in the 1930s. Rhoda and Sue have shared an enduring friendship, raising families, gardening, art, and this beautiful book.
