About the Author:

The year was 1951: Dorothy S. Kendig (Dotty) and her husband J. Richard Kendig took their two little daughters, both under the age of three, to live in Peru, South America. They served as missionaries to the indigenous tribes along the Ucayali River, which is the main headwater of the Amazon. To live in that vast jungle region with no contact with the outside world, except by mail or a slow-moving river boat, was quite a challenge; especially with three small children, their son was born in Lima in 1953.
