Today one of the fastest growing communities is that of online computer gaming.
There are numerous multi-million dollar projects in the works to be released in the coming months and years. These will be combined with the already established online gaming communities. These games vary from war themed to simulations to role playing.
In south Korea alone there are over 1 million subscribers to just one role playing game.
For the last few years as the internet has grown so has the ability to host online tournaments and LAN parties. In the USA the uncrowned king that paved the way for role players has to this date over 300,000 subscribers with a few other companies themselves producing easily above 200,000 subscribers. The world of online gaming is quickly becoming the future of gaming in itself.
There are many numerous reasons as to why an individual would choose to spend their hard earned dollars on an online game. Too numerous in fact to list here. The one thing they do all share however, is imagination. Those that enjoy these games in general are able to immerse themselves fully and also maintain a healthy touch with the outside world. These games in fact bring together people in ways that before would simply not be possible. Role playing is one realm where imagination must be the norm and reality a side note. Each role player shares one common question that burns in them and drives them to each day strive to accomplish their goals.
" What if I were really there?"
By thinking in this mind set a person is able to escape into their online world and for a while assume another identity all together. It is in fact obvious to this writer that it is the one thing we all at some time or another desire to do as humans. To be something of our own creation. This book and those to follow were written on the premise of this one question and the ideas and possibilities of the adventure that would follow. What if a person were suddenly thrust into the online realm of their imagination? I can give the opinion of at least this author that it would be an exciting time and a welcome change from that of the world we live in today. After all, there are wars daily here, and men always killing men in the name of some cause or another. To many the idea of such a world existing seems ridiculous and childish. And yet I say we currently live in such a world only disguised as another. At least in the world of dragons and knights there is an order to things and a certain idea of where one belongs. I do hope that all who read this story, enjoys it's possibilities.
