Islam offers a way of life in which politics cannot be separated from politics. Muslim majority countries have tried to apply secular democracy, separating religion and politics, in their communities but it created more chaos than a stable order. The book "Islamic Social Contract" offers an alternative to the secular democracy that is more in harmony with the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) concluded his last Hajj sermon with these words:
"All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people".
Both Quran and the Prophet has presented that human condition is evolutionary. It was for this reason that neither Quran nor the Prophet mandated a particular form of political system. Islam is one of the most rational religions in the world and it was expected that its followers will lead the world in scientific discoveries and social organization. But unfortunately we have failed miserably on both these fronts.
While doing research for the book, I had a chance to get acquainted with Muslim philosophers and thinkers that have shaped the destiny of ummah for many centuries. In the last century Maulana Abu al Ala Maududi and Syed Qutb had written extensively about Islamic political thought. After reading their works it was apparent to me that their thought was regressive rather than progressive.
It is not possible to recreate the society of 1st century of the advent of Islam because of considerable advancement in human knowledge. It is probably for these reasons that the political parties that were founded on these ideologies i.e. Jamat-e-Islami in Pakistan and Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt have not been able to achieve political success since their formation. Recent election success of Muslim Brotherhood is on the back of Arab Spring rather than a product of their ideology and even then they had to make an amendment to their approach to secure public mandate.
This book is my humble effort to present a political structure for our contemporary times that takes into account the social values presented by Islam. It is by no means a definitive work but an effort to start the discourse.
