Synopsis
La Teogonía es una obra poética escrita por Hesíodo y relata la genealogía de los dioses de la mitología griega. Contiene una de las más antiguas versiones del origen del cosmos y el linaje de los dioses griegos, y es una de las obras claves de la épica grecolatina. Se discute si debe fecharse en el siglo VII a. C. o en el VIII a. C.

About the Author
Hesíodo fue un poeta de la Antigua Grecia. Nació cerca de Tebas hacia la segunda mitad del siglo VIII a. C. o la primera del siglo VII a. C. Fue campesino e hijo de un comerciante. La tradición lo sitúa como contemporáneo de Homero e incluso rival suyo en certámenes poéticos. Sus obras, como las de Homero, fueron objeto ya desde el siglo VI a. C. de estudio y veneración. Es el gran y primer compilador de la religión antigua griega. Puso por escrito y ordenó todo el cuerpo mitológico transmitido hasta entonces de forma oral. En su obra se basaron los mitógrafos posteriores clásicos, gracias a lo cual ha llegado en gran parte hasta nuestros días.
