Terrorism, culture wars, climate-change denial, religiously fueled violence – taken together, they pose an existential threat to civilization -- and they all spring from the same source: Old Time Religion. If civilization is to survive, it's high time for people of good faith to reform the religions of the world. So argues a startling new book from Huffington Post science and religion writer Clay Farris Naff. In Free God Now! he offers a new paradigm for reform. Good Faith, he says, is not a religion but a set of clear, rational, science-compatible principles that can empower people to make positive change in whatever tradition they happen to find themselves. “Free God Now is an appeal,” he writes, “It is a plea to you to look into your heart and free God from the prison of ancient theology.”

Clay Farris Naff (clayfarrisnaff.com) is a science and religion writer who early in life had the unusual privilege of living in predominately Muslim, Christian, and Buddhist countries, as well as having close friends of other religions – all without ever being lodged within one. As a child, he lived in London, Istanbul, and Cairo before his family returned to the United States, eventually to settle in Philadelphia. As a young adult, Naff lived and worked in Japan for more than four years. An award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and author, he has been an Associate Press reporter, Tokyo corres-pondent for United Press International, a freelance reporter for National Public Radio, and a freelance writer for Newsweek, Earth Magazine, The Humanist, and Scientific American, among other publications. He has been a science-and-religion columnist for the Metanexus Institute, and is the author or editor of numerous books. Naff lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he serves as the executive director of a charitable organization, writes, and guest lectures at various colleges, universities, and churches.
