About Shell Education
Rachelle Cracchiolo started the company with a friend and fellow teacher. Both were eager to share their ideas and passion for education with other classroom leaders. What began as a hobby, selling lesson plans to local stores, became a part-time job after a full day of teaching, and eventually blossomed into Teacher Created Materials. K-Gr 1–The texts average between 20 to 35 words in these titles designed to help build particular skills such as identifying colors (Carousel Colors), counting (Duck Pond Fun), and sight words. For example, in Playground Friends, “Bakri is on the bridge”; “Britney is on the bars”; “Sara is on the swing.” Each book includes a guided reading level, DRA level, and Lexile level on the back cover. The titles lack interesting or well-developed stories, but their brevity could help young students in independent reading practice. Colorful cartoon illustrations serve to expand on the texts.
