Synopsis

Without Levolution, there would be no gravity, stars, or life; but up until now, the self-similar properties of these energetic systems has been obscured.  The discrete, material objects in the universe are the functionally ordered pathways of energy. All 23 levels of organization in the universe display the same pattern at a fundamental level.

Michael Gunter, an ecologist, examines the Levolution process, which underlies a whole new paradigm that explains how the universe works and what it is doing. It is responsible for creating every type of naturally occurring system we know.  In easy-to-understand language, Gunter explains how Levolution is based on simple properties of energy flowing in systems.

Learning how it works will help you understand:
* the cosmological relevance of energy and its laws
* the contents of the universe as 23 levels of increasing, entropically functional order
* that the order is imposed on a single batch of energy
* that the universe appears to have a purpose.

The end result is an entirely new perspective on what we call "order" and a new spin on what ancient and recent thinkers have said about the nature of the universe. The newly proposed Laws of Functional Order will equip you to understand the profound role of thermodynamic natural selection, universal evolution, and the cosmic order caused by Levolution.

About the Author

Michael Gunter is an ecologist by training, a cosmologist by aspiration, and as a result of this book, may be one of the first cosmic ecologists.  Gunter spent a decade as an environmental consultant in the energy industry in Houston after studying and performing ecological research at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.  He also has an MS in Biology from the University of Kansas, where systematics and ecology, especially of fishes, were his interest.  He hails from Wichita, Kansas.

Gunter had a second career in Austin, Texas where he helped to pioneer the Internet services industry and produced custom database applications for an explosion of budding web-based entrepreneurs.

Throughout his two careers, Gunter has been pondering a novel way to think about the levels of organization in the universe.  His quest has resulted in a set of theories that may join ecology and physics at the hip.

In the Levolution Series he ranges well outside of biology to generalize the more basic and fundamental laws of energy and order, and then uses that as a lens through which to see the cosmos.  Insisting that it is a developing, single thing, Gunter shows us a universe based on a single pattern or form, and explains that Thermodynamic Natural Selection is here to enforce conformance.  Gunter reveals here his insights born of a long mission to understand energy at its deepest and most profound levels.

From the Back Cover

Humanity exists on a tiny speck of a blue planet in a star
system, in a galaxy, in a vast universe that boggles the
mind in its extent. A dime held over a starless patch of sky
at arm's length on a clear night covers about a hundred
billion stars that you cannot see with the naked eye.
The distances and numbers are vast, but observational
astronomers and physical cosmologists are rapidly
characterizing the structures out there.

Modern telescopes have allowed cosmologists to help us
understand that the universe is expanding at an accelerating
rate, that it contains generally the same elements as right
here on earth, and that it is quite similar in all directions.
We can also see that it has scales of structure that seem to
be "nested" into moons, planets, star systems, and galaxies.

One doesn't need telescopes, however, to see a similar pattern
among cells, organisms, and cultures, or among quarks, nucleons,
and nuclei, or even among atoms, molecules, and early cells.
One pattern fits everything, and the pattern is caused by
Levolution, a process driven by energy in its flowing.
