Synopsis
De Nederlandse schrijver Jacob Israël de Haan (Smilde, 31 december 1881 — Jeruzalem, 30 juni 1924) emigreerde in 1919 als zionist naar Palestina. In 'Jerusalem' zijn verhalen gebundeld die het dagelijks leven aldaar beschrijven. In Palestina keerde De Haan zich van het zionisme af. Vlak voordat hij naar Nederland zou terugkeren werd Jacob Israël de Haan in Jerusalem in opdracht van de zionistische organisatie Hagana doodgeschoten.

Jacob Israël de Haan (Smilde, 31 december 1881 — Jeruzalem, 30 juni 1924) was een Nederlandse schrijver, dichter, publicist, rechtsgeleerde en (anti)zionist. Hij emigreerde in 1919 als zionist naar Palestina. Hij werd daar op 30 juni 1924 vermoord door Avraham Tehomi in opdracht van de Joodse paramilitaire organisatie Hagana.
