Review:
Clarion/ForeWord Review  ★★★★☆

Author and illustrator Walter Williams has filled The Bicycle Garden with unusual illustrations. Boldly colored, these impressive colored-pencil drawings carry something of a folk-art feel. A delightful simplicity and naïveté give Williams's illustrations a unique, magical quality.  The writing has a mystical tone and is straightforward and entrancing.  Williams's appealing illustrations and suspenseful story will entertain many different age groups from preschoolers to early readers.

Kirkus Review
The author's colored-pencil illustrations are the book's standout feature, with vibrant primary hues and simplified, exuberant figures that seem influenced by Henri Matisse's work. Each illustration clearly supports its corresponding page of text--no more than one sentence per page--and takes liberties with space, perspective and form in a way that children may find delightfully silly and adults, appealingly modernist. A charming picture book, full of visual appeal, which may become a family favorite.

Midwest Book Review
The Bicycle Garden is a children's picturebook about limitless possibilities. What if you could grow a bicycle, in your very own garden? Timka and Dasha set out to do just that, but run into one obstacle after another - the sprouting bicycles grow too fast, or too high! Can they grow bicycles that will suit each of them just right? The semi-abstract, crayon-style illustrations lend the impression of a child's wonder, in this delightfully absurd story, ideal for young people who are just beginning to read on their own.
