Simple text and beautiful illustrations follow a baby bird through the seasons in this sweet tale now available as Classic Board Book.
From birth, to first flight, to a new friend, the first year of a bird’s life is full of activity and wonder. Artist Jorey Hurley pairs vivid, crisp artwork with simple, minimal text—often just one word per spread—to create a breathtaking, peaceful chronicle of nature and life’s milestones.
This book is now available as a Classic Board Book, perfect for young readers.

“OUTTAKES” from Nest
By Jorey Hurley
PLUM BRANCHES I've been drawing the tree out our kitchen window and the many birds that frequent it for years --- this is from spring 2012. That's how I developed the style used for the images in Nest.Click here for a larger image
AMERICAN ROBIN One of the most common birds here in the Presidio is the American Robin. I decided to make them the main bird in Nest because they live all across North America, often in suburban or fairly built-up areas. Also their behavior is appealing to a human perspective (some birds are really not nice once you get into the details), so robins are perfect to share with young children.Click here for a larger image
WIND BLOW This is an early sketch for the "blow" spread. I worked with very, very simple sketches while Paula, Lizzy, and I were still figuring out the story.Click here for a larger image
KITE BLOW So they were easy to change until we decided exactly what would happen on each page. This revised sketch is very similar to the final "blow" spread, which is one of the preview pages for Amazon already.Click here for a larger image
