Becoming A FatherWomen say that men dont knowThe pain through which a woman go;Maybe this is true, and yetI know its the day hell never forget;When each one came he suffered, too,And prayed it would soon be through;He paced the floor, and dabbed his eyes,Waiting for the very first cryShes doing fine, the doctor saidAs she glanced at him from eyes of redShes doing just fine, he said againThank you, he said with a phony grinWhen it came, oh what a joyThe Lord gave us a baby boyWhen it was over you looked a wreckClothes wrinkled, shirt collar limp at your neckYour head is throbbing, and your features drawnIts no wonder with the suffering you had borneYou feel like youve walked a hundred milesUntil she gives you that loving smileShe looked at him and softly saidIf I were you, Id go get in bedHers was the bitterest part, I knowShe travailed through the valley of woeNow when women folk recallThe pain and anguish of it allI tell them in a manner so sadIt aint no cinch becoming a dadLooking back at the pain you went throughHes just an addition to a growing crewSo when you think woman has it so hardThink on the man cause plays his partHappy Fathers Day to all the menUnless you become a woman, youll never win.WomanDo you know you are a costly thing?Made by the Hand above?A womens heart, and a womans life,and a womens wonderful love.Your heart is as an ocean deep, as it is wide.A loving woman finds heaven or hellOn the day she is made a bride.Man requires a cook for his bread and beef,But a woman requires a far greater thing.A seamtress man wants for his socks and shirts,While woman makes man her king.She is fair, yet the rose bud may fadefrom her soft young cheeks one dayWill you love her mid the falling leaves,as you did many the blooms of May?If she cannot be this, a laundress and a cook,you can hire a maid, and pay;But a womens heart and a womans life,are not to be worn that way.A queen for the beautiful realm called home,Established by our Maker, God.He looked upon woman as He did on man,And It is very goodFor a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of but the woman is the glory of the man. About the Author

Rosalee Thomas is a retired mother of ten children, a grandmother of twenty, great grandmother of eighteen, and great, great grandmother of one. She has always loved poetry, plays, and Broadway shows, art, and dancing. This will be her first book of poetry. She is a minister and an associate minister at the Union Baptist Church of Neptune, NJ. Moving from Florida, she now lives in Freehold, NJ.
