I really like the creativity of a martial arts fantasy book. From the start of the book I was interested in what was happening next. The story I believe is primarily targeting a younger male audience, but I found that is what made it so much fun to read. The evil Lord of Shadows is trying to enter the world and it is up to the main character Alexander and his friends to stop them and the battles they face along the way. I found this creative story to be great and anyone who is into martial arts will love this read --Chris
I got this on Kindle Unlimited. Cool story. After losing his parents in a devastating attack, 16-year-old, Alexander must hone the martial arts skills his father taught him to protect himself from a battery of brutal mercenaries bent on stealing his birth-right; a strange key. But figuring out what the key entails requires Alexander to conquer his own fears and find the best in himself. That s a tall order for anyone, especially for a teen. Master Luray is the first master in the series of guardians who will train the boy. As a Master of the White Rose, he sees the same kind of fight and determination in Alexander that his father possessed. He does his best to prepare Alexander for a journey to understand a centuries old obligation. Following clues from a cracked medallion, Alexander looks for a new guardian to help him on his quest. Traveling from Norway to America. He makes new friendships as he attempts to join the ranks of the masters and learns that he s not the only one protecting a key. There are Masters of the White Rose around the world who are involved with protecting their own keys. Mercenaries are targeting them as well. Told through many POV s this novel has a complex and interesting plot that takes the reader on an action-packed journey spanning continents, several different cultures and centuries-- as Alexander makes new friends, acquires new skills and does his best to stay alive. The author writes in a simple, engaging style and clearly expresses his deep understanding of the mechanics and stress-points in many martial arts disciplines and fighting styles. It is in these action-packed battle scenes that he exhibits the knowledge of a 5th Dan. This book sets up the foundation of a universe which is the backdrop of a much larger story but it s a stand-alone novel. No cliff hanger here. Just a great read. --Page M.
