Michael Thornton lived in Japan for twenty-three years. He is the author of a film script, "The Fable of the Wen: A Japanese Folktale," and of a book for children, "The Animal Garden." The stories collected in this present volume, stories of sorrow and longing occasioned by the loss of his Japanese life, were written upon return to America.
