Hannah Morrison’s place of business might as well be a bomb. Nearly everything inside the fence is either flammable or explosive—and somebody is trying to blow it up. Hannah’s friend and mentor has already died, and though she knows it’s sabotage, she can’t prove it. With the help of photojournalist Noel Keller, Hannah uncovers suspect after suspect as the stakes mount for the refinery, its neighborhood and the entire city. Determined to avenge her friend’s death, Hannah works to identify the saboteur before he decides: WHO WILL BE THE NEXT TO DIE? Combining elements of mystery, thriller and romantic suspense, UNREASONABLE RISK will keep readers awake long into the night, and make them think hard the next time they drive past an industrial facility. Are they safe? Really?

Karen Hall, environmental engineer and writer, lives just outside Rapid City with her husband Jeff Nelsen and their cat, Junior, who really runs the house. A Fargo native, Karen earned a degree in English literature from the University of Minnesota and subsequently worked as an editor, lifeguard, graphics designer, marketing executive and bank teller. In search of a more permanent vocation, she went back to the South Dakota School of Mines for degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering, and spent many years working in Minnesota's oil industry. Her first novel, Unreasonable Risk (2006), a thriller about sabotage in an oil refinery, introduced her protagonist, Hannah Morrison. Hannah's adventures continued in Through Dark Spaces (2012), set in the hard rock gold mining industry of the Black Hills. She is currently (still) finishing a novel about infertility and is also working on the third Hannah Morrison mystery.
